I have insomnia like most of you. I've tried Amitriptyline but that leaves me feeling drowsy the next morning. I'm on Lunesta but currently having an awful time with insomnia - going to sleep and staying asleep. I am taking 10 mg of melatonin but not helping at all. Any suggestions?
Have you tried sleepy time tea. Or tension tamer tea or anything like night time tea
I take 100 mg of Trazadone along with 5 mg of melatonin at night. Some times I will add 1mg of Xanax too. It takes about 30 minutes to start feeling drowsy. My problem is being able to stay asleep. I will sleep hard for about an hour and a half then it is up and down. If I don't take the melatonin with the Trazadone I don't fall asleep for a long time.
I stay away from sleeping pills and opiates /narcotics, do not like anything addictive. my general practitioner prescribed generic Flexeril, low dose 10mg, it works very well because I have fibro and osteoarthritis, it relaxes my muscles and helps me sleep well at night.
I've had similar problems with sleep since my diagnosis. Also had the severe drowsiness from amitriptyline and so I switched over to a different anti-depressant and also tried Ambien for sleep issues. It worked well, and though I did end up getting some of the weird side effects I felt that getting actual sleep was worth dealing with those. However, after being on Ambien for a long time it gradually stopped working and now I'm using melatonin instead and it's great! I wonder if you might want to talk to your doc about trying a sleeping med for a few weeks and then switching back to the melatonin? Could be your body just needs to break that bad sleep cycle and get your levels back into rhythm.
I have taken medication for sleep, for a long time, since my menopause, not just fibromyalgia. u think the issues with sleep disorder comes also from the anxiety/depression caused by the pain..and I take now herbal tablets, such as Valerian. I also take Endep (for anxiety and mild depression) that helps me settle and sleep better. But is not a normal sleep of someone that hs no pain..
