I have had disability since 1994. I also have other medical problems in addition to fibromyalgia. And I have seen enough postings here of people with this disease also getting disability.

This disease has the very real potential to make a person so sick and in pain they can barely move. For that one reason alone, it's hard for people to put in the effort to file for disability. Even back in 94 I had to get a lawyer for my 2nd try. Don't give up. Make sure to have as much documentation as possible.

YES! There is an ICD code for Fibromyalgia now! YES! You can apply for disability with it now and not under a guise of depression or other secondary manifestation. The code is : 2018 ICD-10-CM Diagnosis Code M79.7 - FIBROMYALGIA

A few years ago the powers that be determined that Fibromyalgia would be on the list of disability diagnoses. The stipulation was that you would have to be treated by a rheumatologist to be considered. A rheumatologist's diagnosis will be the major determining factor.

I have been trying since 2015 and just learned last week that I will be having my hearing before the judge on June 20th. I have been denied three times so far and this is my first hearing with the judge. I am using an attorney who specializes in disability claims.

I know one person who was able to get her disability approved in 8 months. Her suggestion is to keep a daily journal of your pain levels, what hurts, what you were able to do and what you couldn't do. She started hers before she was diagnosed and took it with her to her hearing. She was approved without ever being denied.

Where you live also plays a part in the process. For example, where I live the Disability Determination officers are told to deny the first claim someone makes regardless of whether they are truly and obviously disabled or not. I know this to be true because we know someone who worked there.

Contact your federal senator and representatives and get their help. They can often get things pushed through.

You are blessed if you are able to get disability. My family so could use the $$$. But I do not qualify do to I have made the choice not to work and raise kids. Then I was to sick to get a job. So I struggle to live on one income. I get angry when I hear of people getting disability at a very young age and get to be on it without being checked on to see if they are able to work. The system is broken.
