I'm 58. Filed in July 2017. Denied at initial filing. I then obtained an attorney and have filed for reconsideration. Hoping to hear something soon.

Members shared their experiences navigating the disability application process, with nearly everyone reporting initial denials and waits ranging from months to three years before approval, often requiring multiple appeals and hearings before a judge. Several members emphasized the importance of writing detailed letters describing daily struggles and depression, stressing how fibromyalgia affects quality of life, while others strongly recommended hiring an attorney who typically gets paid only upon winning the case and capping fees at $6,000 from back pay. A recurring theme was the frustrating financial hardship of being too sick to work yet forced to wait years for benefits already paid into, met with encouragement to persist through appeals and never give up despite the exhausting process.

I guess we really should all say where we are from because it really does make a difference in the end I think. I live in Ontario, Canada and as I said I didn’t get a lawyer but it looks like some places you do need one! All I can say is, REALLY stress about how depressed you are since your life was taken away as depression seems to be more recognized than a lot of things! Also, once you get approved, apply for the Disability Tax Credit for your income tax!! I did use a company that helped me get it, and yes it did cost, but well worth it! It’s so sad when we work so hard all our life and pay into everything then you try to collect something and you lose everything you worked so hard for waiting to receive these things you paid into!! Good luck to everyone!!!

I got denied first time and couldn’t afford a lawyer so I sat down and wrote like a six page letter, took a couple of days, telling them how shitty my life was and the day to day struggles! Make sure they know how depressed you are over losing your real life! I got approved after this letter and the whole thing took almost a year. I first applied in January and got the good news Dec 21!! Wow, what an early Christmas present that was! Just keep trying!!

Most attorneys get paid when you win your case. If you go to court, and loose you then have the right to uptain another attorney, and owe the first one nothing.

Gentle hugs 🌼🌻🌹

@A MyFibroTeam Member (Phone number can only be seen by the question and answer creators). Or get so frustrated u go out and find a job. I no I can't work, but been tempted a few times to go out find a part time job and say the he'll with it. My husband God bless him tells me no.. it will happen and if mot then not meant to be. He is my Rock but very hard he makes enough to survive but a very tight budget. I filed in 2016 as well. My attorney told me it would take about 3 years to get a hearing. I've been denied twice myself. Just a waiting game now. Hugs and Prayers

I finally got approved. I have disc bulges in low back & neck , but approval was because of fibro. My dr came thru with a good letter & I wrote detailed letter describing all symptoms. This is thru work not canada pension. I think everyone gets denied fr cpp & has 2 fight & wait yrs. Its not nice being too sick to work & having to fight for disability, very disheartening . Stay strong!
