I Need Advice On Knee Replacement Surgery.
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

My surgeon mention that many of his patients that have fybro really regret having the surgery because their pain is actually worse after the replacement . He also said that the knee doesn’t heal as well. I need some suggestions should I go with the replacement or should I just live with this constant pain. I know many people that have had the replacement but none with fybro.

I don't know anyone with fibro that has had a knee replacement but my 78 year old mom had both knees replaced last year. 4 months apart, not both at once. She did really good thru the surgeries and the rehab. The rehab is the most painful part of it. Yiu have under 6 months to get the bend as far as you can before you can no longer get it to bend more. My mom was very lucky and worked hard at therapy to make sure she got her knees to bend far enough to be able to get up and down without any problems. Think about trying to get out of your car. You need to bend your knees past 90 degrees in order to be able to stand up. That is why you have to work hard at therapy. I am sure your pain will increase from the fibro but if your knees are bone on bone then it might be worth the suffering. Mom is doing great now. She goes for walks which she was not able to before surgery. Good luck with whatever you decide. Hugs

I am miserable. I ended up with 2 surgeries on each knee. I won't heal. If I had a do over no freaking way. I had 4 surgeries in 13 months. I haven't worked in two years. I can't walk far (or fast). A couple of weeks ago my left knee had HORRIBLE pain. I was back to using walker to cane and now back on two legs but it still has it's moments.

I was diagnosed with fibro in 1990. I had a knee replacement and i do not regret it. My other knee is very painful now and i would have it done if that is what i needed. My replaced knee after surgery was VERY painful omg unbearable at times but it will pass. I did not have a flare due to having the replacement.

I had a knee replacement and have had fibro for many many years. Replacement was on 8/18/16. I would have it done definately. Putting up with it would be unwise in my opinion. Bernice

I wish I had the answer but all I know is that’s when I got fibro, after three surgeries! They say physical (surgery) or mental trauma starts fibro so I would imagine it makes it worse! However, with all the stress from the knee pain, that wouldn’t help your fibro so maybe if you get them replaced, the less pain and exhaustion from your bad knee might lighten your fibro pain? Good luck whatever you decide! I’d do it I think!
