Does anyone know how long you can take vitamins, herbal suppliments? Do you need to stop for awhile? What about Gabapentin, how long do you take that....forever?

Members shared their varied experiences with gabapentin, vitamins, and herbal supplements in response to questions about how long these can be taken safely. Several members described taking vitamins and supplements for years while adjusting seasonally or based on need, with one member noting that stopping vitamins increased their pain, while others emphasized the importance of regular blood work to monitor for liver or kidney damage. A recurring theme was the necessity of gradually adjusting gabapentin dosages to minimize side effects like dizziness and the critical importance of consulting doctors before making any medication changes, especially when weaning off prescriptions.

Always have blood work done at least every 6 months to make certain supplements and medications are not causing any kidney or liver damage.
Gabapentin gave me horrendous nightmares and Cymbalta caused EXTREME nausea. I could not tolerate either one. Lyrica makes my brain fog worse and caused weight gain. It's all very discouraging.

I believe it depends on what it is and what you are taking it for. I take extra vitamin D in the winter because I don't get the sunshine, but in the summer I only take what is in my calcium supplement. I take the calcium supplement always because I am white, have a family history of osteoporosis and am post menopausal. I take extra vitamin C when people are coughing and hacking around me that I do not take when there are no signs of 'epidemic'. If they are water soluable you can take indefinitely, like vitamin B12, but it might be a waste of money if you don't need it. That is why researching is so important. Also letting your doctor, pharmacist, dietician, naturopath all know what you are using so that they can help you. The more brains the better.

I have been on vitamins and supplements for many years. I also have taken pain meds for years. As long as the meds are working, i will continue taking them. I stopped my vitamins for a couple of months and my pain increased. I eon't do that again.
