Causes Of Fibro?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

My consultant told me last week when I was dignosed that trauma can cause fibro.
Has anyone else been told this?

I was told fibro is caused by surgery or a trauma to a person whether it be physical or mental!! I totally agree with this cause after being on this site for a few years, most people on here have experienced one or both! A lot of times they go hand in hand because with surgery you experience pain and worry if the surgery will work and if it doesn’t then you are stuck trying to figure out how to cope!! With trauma, you could also experience pain physically or mentally and again are left trying to decide how to go on!! No matter how we get fibro, it is real and it sucks!!!!

Yes I was told the same that sometimes trauma can start symptoms off. I still think a lot of medical people think it's all in our head

Yip I've heard this. It makes sense for me as I have experienced abuse and having trauma from a burst appendix and emergency surgery was what seemed to be my tipping point.

I see my rheumatologist on Jan 2 (will be my second visit) and have too many questions to get answers for. I do feel that stress plays a role. I have lived with much trauma for many years (many surgeries and adult children problems). I do know this started abruptly following a two week visit to California for a family reunion. I know I did way too much and the plane travel was very stressful. I also suffer much pain from osteoarthritis, and that in itself takes a big tole on me. I wish I could be of more help, just so much to learn.
