I get such intense pain when that blood pressure cuff gets so tight on my arm. I usually have them take it on my forearm which is painful too but not as painful as my upper arm. I have to close my eyes and do slow and steady breathing, in through my nose and out through my mouth till it is over. I believe the pain I experience drives my blood pressure up.

Is it just me or does this happen to anyone else? I am not a wimp when it comes to tolerating pain but this is one of my weak points.

Members overwhelmingly validated the intense pain many experience during blood pressure cuff measurements, with several recognizing for the first time that fibromyalgia pressure points might be the cause. Many community members described practical workarounds including requesting manual pumps instead of automatic cuffs, using wrist monitors at home, asking for forearm placement, or purchasing affordable home devices to avoid frequent office visits and white coat syndrome. A recurring theme was the relief of discovering they're not alone in this struggle, with members sharing both the physical discomfort and emotional frustration of needing multiple attempts or having to remove the cuff entirely.

I purchased a cheap wrist blood pressure meter from amazon.com It only cost $27 Cdn. As it fits around one's wrist, it's not as uncomfortable as the cuff meter, as the cuff has to go around the upper arm. And, the readings are accurate. Both Hubby and I use it as the meter can keep track of two people's numbers; and it last through 200 readings before the battery needs to be recharged. I keep track of all the readings and take the notebook to every doctor's visit to show her/them because both of us get "white coat syndrome" at the doc's office. Sometimes, the doc just looks at my readings and doesn't bother to do the blood pressure "thing" in the office.

Yes especially the ones when you are inpatient in the hospital and they are automatic. I feel like screaming it hurts so bad. The cuff machine I have at home isn't too bad, but still can be uncomfortable.

Yes the pain is awful & sometimes they just give up & take my word that it's usually ok.

Yes I do! But only with those automatic blood pressure things. Not when a real person does it by hand.

Yes, it is because there are fibro-pressure point at most places they put the cuff! I started keeping a ledger for my vitals, + my blood sugar, and meds taken, + MyAir from my C-pap reading! This was suggested by my Home Health Nurse!
