Members responding to a question about suitable careers for people with fibromyalgia overwhelmingly recommended remote work with flexible, self-paced hours, such as freelance graphic design, data entry, genealogy, or turning hobbies into income streams. Several members shared personal stories of leaving healthcare, retail, and management roles due to unbearable pain, with some now pursuing disability benefits or finding success in creative fields like writing horror columns or making jewelry. A recurring theme was the critical importance of understanding employers and coworkers, effective pain management through medication and movement, and the harsh reality that chronic pain makes traditional full-time work incredibly difficult for many.

I find sleeping in the day, and awake all night is a highlight for fibro warriors! Not sure how that'll work on my resume 😉

I had so many symptoms, I kept on being told by my doctors that I was not ready to return to work. And before I knew it more than 20 years had passed and now I'm in my 60's. I did have many interests, such as making jewelry with beads, writing poetry and fiction, and other sundry things that I managed to make a little extra money for myself here and there. I imagine that working from home and being able to make your own hours would be ideal for someone with a chronic illness, especially if there is a lot of pain involved. I've seen people with incredible disabilities do all kinds of interesting work and make good pay, but the difference, I guess, is that these people don't have pain. That's the one major factor. And I sure wish society would just GET IT !!!.

Anything you can do at your own pace is good for fibro. I'm getting into genealogy. It's very self paced and you can go private or work for many companies

I think it would be a great idea to find something you could do from home and or flexible hours. Maybe you have a hobby that you can turn into a cash cow? Find something that you enjoy doing and then do the research and see what you need to begin your journey. Our pain is real land hopefully you and I both will find something that works for us. Best of luck to finding work that is inspiring and that isn't stressful.
