Empty Sella Syndrome, ESS, is a rare disorder in which the pituitary gland shrinks or becomes flattened. It is characterized by enlargement or malformation of a structure in the skull known as the sella turcica, a saddle-shaped depression located in the bone at the base of the skull, that surrounds and protects the pituitary gland. ESS is most common in adults and women, often associated with obesity and HBP. Empty Sella Syndrome is believed to be brought on by trauma, injury, surgery, or radiation therapy. Mine is thought to be the result of trauma and injury caused by domestic violence and abuse. (I'm discovering that after 20 years, my wounds are deep and unforgiving)
I began to have migraines, more often and more severe than I had experienced in the past. I began to notice a heavier than usual runny nose followed by an immediate relief of pressure in my head.. I was also thirstier than normal. I was drinking more water than a person should. My doctor recommended I have an MRI. ....he then explained that he wanted to rule out the possibility of a brain tumor.
MRI results determine Empty Sella Syndrome not a tumor. The migraines I had been experiencing are from high fluid pressure in my brain. And my runny nose?...That, my darlings, is spinal fluid drainage! ... How?!? ... Why?... Its caused by trauma/injury?.. It's treatable with RX.... Good!...I can't breathe... I want to leave, go home....I need some fresh air...
I was in a violent relationship for 17 years. The beginning was good and bad, like everyone else. Then something began...Violence and abuse is a form of control. When you're in the relationship for a long time, you lose your identity. You believe in the lies you were told. I, somehow, still believed it was better for me to stay for the good of the children. I became isolated ....
When I finally woke up I saw 6 beautiful faces looking back at me. I had been out for 3 days. I had swelling on my brain. My back, and sides were brused and tender. The DA suggested that me and my children move out of the state..He was afraid he was going to open the paper one morning to see that I've been murdered.
We, my children and I, decided to fight..for US....
