Felt disconnected from my body, numb, and didnt feel right. Chiari, fibro, anxiety? I wasn't anxious before it happened but sure was during it because I felt like I wasn't in control of my own body, so Then got anxious and short of breath but wasn't prior. Help. Fingers are still numb feeling but took a nap and feel more alert now. Too weird

Members discussed frightening symptoms of disconnection and numbness, with several suggesting it could be related to Chiari malformation, fibromyalgia, medication side effects, or anxiety, while encouraging a visit to the doctor or ER if symptoms return. Several members shared their own struggles with medication side effects, particularly gabapentin causing fluid retention and swelling, and the ongoing challenge of distinguishing between symptoms from different conditions versus drug reactions. A recurring theme was the importance of self-advocacy with medical providers, the frustration of managing multiple overlapping conditions, and the shared experience of learning to manage pain through careful attention to what works for one's own body.

Fluid retention and swelling. I had looked up side effects and the swelling is not listed on all sites. But the nurse practitioner I go to for my antidepressants said that can happen with gabapentin. Anyway I feel better not taking it. I still have fibromyalgia pain, but at least I don't have the added issues of swelling and fluid retention.

Having chiari your symptoms can come and go. Some of the symptoms mimic fibromyalgia and other certainly do not.
It’s always better to be safe than sorry. If you were actually scared I would get checked out. I would also have a long talk with your doctor about your Chiari so you can differentiate when you are having symptoms of that compared to fibro. Maybe that will ease your mind when physical things are happening.
I’m praying for you. ❤️

I'm about done with all meds. I seem to have more problems with side effects and the meds don't do anything to change the pain. I'm never pain free but I just learned (today)that if I wait to take the naproxen, it does lessen the pain when it is bad

Ya I've heard there's a lot of side effects of gabapentin I'll try to stay away from that one also!
