Gabapentin is generally prescribed for nerve pain.

I have used it for one year. I take low dose. 200 mg in am and 200 in pm. When they added another 200 mg dose during the day it really made me have a hard time concentrating and I had a hard time reading out loud. I am now on 200 in am and 300 at night. The problem is that it wears off at 8 hrs and that's why doctors like that you take it 3 times a day to keep it working. I don't know how effective it has been for me. Started using it to treat facial and neck pain etc. I have learned how to massage out the muscles and do stretching and strengthening exercises. A physical therapist is a good one to teach you what you need to do at home. But doing it consistently is a discipline.

Oh and if you do get prescribed it please pay close attention to your mood as it made me very suicidal within about 6 weeks of starting on it!!!Let people know around you so they can tell you if your behavior/mood changes.

Yes I was prescribed it for fibro but unfortanately it didn't help my pain but everyone is different.
