Members shared recommendations for healthcare providers in the Eugene, Oregon area who understand fibromyalgia, with one member enthusiastically recommending Dr. William Meier on E 11th Street (who diagnosed her fibro after years without answers and also identified her ankylosing spondylitis) and acupuncturist Rachel Rubin on Pearl Street. Several members described common frustrations with doctors dismissing fibromyalgia as simply chronic pain once diagnosed, making patients feel overlooked rather than supported with meaningful treatment. A recurring theme was the challenge of finding quality, compassionate doctors who truly listen, with many noting long wait times, limited availability of specialists, and the exhausting reality of driving long distances just to access competent care.

There is a shortage of doctor's in general let alone ones who specialize in fibro. Do u know about Portland?

@A MyFibroTeam Member yeah I know. The doctors situations up here are wait, wait, and wait. It's not worth it. And that's if you can find one taking new patients. My husband is diabetic and he is also driving to Springfield when needed for his check ups. Miles wise..It's still within our network perimeter so it works for now. I hope you have good results!!๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ™‚

ok, good for me to know. I will see how it goes with the next MD and see how that goes. Thx for the info. That is too bad for you that you have to drive so far to see a decent doc.

@A MyFibroTeam Member Well I do like the way he really listens and he doesn't try to put me on a bunch of meds if I don't need them. Keeps the communication going to make sure things are going well with something we are trying and I just love his staff. I only see him about every six months now..And with it being a 45 min drive down there for me I haven't gone to the pool yet but he reminds me when I see him haha that I should.

Hi Delrea, How has Dr. Maier helped you with your fibro?
Do you go to the Tamarack pool?
I live very close by to it. Maybe we could meet sometime over there?
What do you think?
