I have a hard time sticking to any exercise because every time I go for a walk, or anything else, I end up extremely stiff and in pain. Then I have a difficult time sleeping that night because of the pain (mostly in my legs). There's no gym where I live, and though there's a beach, the tides are very uncertain. Besides, within a couple of weeks the water will be too cold to go swimming. When I lived near a heated pool half a year ago, I loved going to that, and my muscles never got stiff. Thatโฆ read more

I found Tia Chi works for me.
If you become extremely stiff and painful from walking, it sounds like you need to reduce the length/ intensity of your walks and build up very slowly.
Be careful as it's easy to overstretch with yoga and cause more pain.
I've switched to 10min Pilates most days which is my new favourite at the moment. My muscles are a lot stronger, posture better, range of movement and flexibility is much better- after just 3 weeks. No added pain from doing it either.
As long as you're doing something, you're preventing the muscles deconditioning and becoming weaker and stiffer.
Know what you mean but you may find a local hotel that has o pool ,steam room, and hot tub, there are several in Scarborough, you can join for ยฃ20/30 per month and go as often as you like, the Dr's recommend this as best for fibromyalgia, but you need to spend 2/3hrs each time, and go with a fit friend,as you will be worn out, good for getting you out,and lifting depression, well worth the effort involved, stay for coffee,or light meal, make a day of it.xxx

Several years ago my muscles in the hips, pelvis and lower back areas were extremely tight and very sensitive. Like you said screaming to never do that again. I started with a book "Healing Pelvic Pain" by Amy Stein from the library. She has a routine laid out that targets that area. I did just a little several times a day. You can stand or lay on the bed. Later I started searching the web for hip area stretches and then added total body stretches. A lot of physical therapists have youtube videos. Two - three years later I'm able to get on the floor in a yoga pose. It takes many little baby steps to get flexible. Gently stretching your muscles is very important. I find I can't do anything repititously or pain starts. I hope you can get to a point where you can move more. It's an uphill battle and no fun hurting when you move. Keep trying and keep moving! :-)
I have a very squeaky old elliptical machine, but it is low impact, so I workout on that. Or swim. Or use a recumbent bike.
