How many of you feel that your pain meds make you more dependent. When I am on my meds I feel like I struggle from pill to pill but worry I cannot manage daily life without them.

Members opened up about the deeply personal struggle of relying on pain medications for chronic conditions like fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, and arthritis, with perspectives ranging from those who feel their meds create a cycle of dependency and worsening pain to others who view them as essential tools for maintaining quality of life. Several members shared their experiences transitioning between medications like Tramadol, hydrocodone, and Fentanyl patches, with some successfully tapering off under medical supervision while others wrestled with the fear of addiction versus the reality of debilitating pain without relief. A recurring theme was the importance of individual choice and self-awareness, with many emphasizing that what works for one person may not work for another, and that using medication to live a functional life should not carry shame as long as the person remains mindful of their relationship with the drugs.

As one who used to be on many..I feel they cause more pain. Your body gets used to taking them for pain, manufactures more pain and tells you you need more pills. It's a vicious cycle really. I've done some research and found that fibro doesn't respond to pain meds very much..could be why I kept taking more and more to try and get out of pain to no avail!!! Mind you, this is only what I've experienced, not speaking for everyone!!

I have always been very strong willed thinking that my meds are only for my pain and not to become dependant. I have lowered my intake of percacet numerous times without any problems except the fact my pain is excruciating without it. Years ago I was on the Fentanyl patch for quite a while and at a very strong dosage but started getting nerve block shots in my shoulders and believed I didn't need the Fentanyl any longer. My doctor and I slowly lowered the strength of Fentanyl by 25g each week and lengthened the time in between replacing the patch and I am happy to report I had no problems what so ever! Again, I've always made sure I strongly believe my meds are only for relief and that I am not addicted in the way of needing them for a high!! I get absolutely no high from anything I take as it all goes to my pain!!!

Well I speak from plenty of experience. I have severe cfs, ibs fibromyalgia and so I am plagued with chronic pain, fatigue; sleep problems over the years have drastically led to worsening of my condition. I have had this terrible illness for over 20 years but it took me ten to get a diagnosis. I have at one point tried every recommended tablet to help me and none of them have helped. I was never fortunate enough to know abut the importance of a healthy lifestyle to help get you better and never had the support in place either to be able to pace myself. I am now more or less housebound, I never get any relief from my symptoms which are constant they never go away and I have now been told due to length of time I have been unwell and severity of my symptoms that I am likely to never get better and lol, I need to take more exercise and eat more healthily etc. I live alone with little or no support unable to even get to the shops or walk outside so you tell me how someone in my position does this?
I hate all the pills, I feel toxic and avoid sleeping tablets at all costs and any pain meds.
Please don't ruin your life like I have mine avoid prescription drugs at all costs.
They don't help in the long run, yes they can make pain worse and yes u probably will end up dependant.

I also experience the same thing. I just recently stopped meds. The only thing m taking is the antiflammtory. It does some help with my arthritis. I am tired of taking meds and struggle with it. Plus I can't seem to find any good doctors who is truly wanting to help.
