When Do You Know When To Look For New Physical Therapist?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I started Physical Therapy just last week with the order from my new Rheumatologist. Saw him two times already and all he did was talk to me. No massage, no exercise, but he feel like he needs to give me a lot of info about fibro. I told him I already have series of books and dvds. I understand that the first day could be evaluation first but I feel that even though I keep telling the PT I have pains on my arms and legs while talking to him that he just ignored those on our second meeting… read more

I don't like that. He could talk and treat you at the same time. Go with your gut

Yes, find out what the deal is with him just talking. Remember he is getting paid.

If you are paying for physical therapy you should be getting therapy not talk. He is not responsible for educating you on fibro. He is supposed to be helping you learn how to do exercises to strengthen and loosen your muscles to help with the pain. He should be teaching you how to move so you won't hurt yourself. If he isn't doing these things you need to talk to your doctor and get referred to a different therapist. If you are at a pain clinic that would be different because part of that therapy is education but regular PT is exercises.

Thank you everyone. I decided to look for a new PT today. There is one near my home instead. I'll see if this is better. At least now I know that there should be some action not all talk.

Definitely seek out someone else. I have never had one that sat and talked to me other than the initial evaluation and progress report at the end. Depending on what type of therapy your doctor ordered he should still be taking measurements etc.
