After much discussion, my doctor and I chose not to go the route of Cymbalta or Lyrica, but instead try trazadone (to combat fibro symptoms of weight gain, insomnia, constant headaches, and overall chronicpain.) The results have been amazing! Has anyone else tried this?
I took trazadone for years and also elavil. I was using these things to sleep. A doctor I was seeing in Burley, ID too me off the elavil cold turkey and I had a horrible experience. I hallucinated, and major panic attacks and felt like I was dying. The same thing can happen with trazadone because it is also a tricyclic antidepressants. It does work well for sleep. However I discontinued using it because my pain doctor says that the new research on trazadone shows it causes or worsens Alzheimer's. There is an extensive history of this in my family so I made the decision to stop taking this medication. I did help my sleep though.
I have taken trazodone for sleep for many years. It is very helpful and has few side effects. Gabapentin has massive side effects when discontinued and I would not recommend going off it quickly (I had to go to the hospital and they gave me Risperdal for my withdrawal).
I have taken trazadone for 5 years now, it does help me sleep better, but that's all the benefit I get
I took trazadone for sleep but it stopped working. I hope you have better luck. @A MyFibroTeam Member they gave you an anti psychotic to go off of gabapentin? Wicked, I'm on gabapentin have been for a couple of years. I also took Risperdal for mental health issues and it gave me horrible restless leg syndrome.
I wasn't prescribed trazadone for the fibro..it was prescribe to help me sleep
