Its so damn hard to get anyone in the nhs to even consider a massage or manipulation...I have felt the benefits of a tui na (Chinese massage) but only a couple of times, Its wonderful after for a few hours, then back to normality, with tightness and pain! sometimes it feels like my muscles are peeling off my legs when I walk, its so painful. I also find cupping very useful too, and if you have someone to help you, you can buy cups online, really cheap. because none of these are on the nhs, and its hard to pay for treatments privately. there are also loads of you tube videos of how to do cupping, and its benefits. My lady is going to be doing a "multi bed" clinic soon, and will be offering treatments for people on benefits at an affordable price for us guys, normally these are out of reach to us, its so unfair! she is also campaigning to get these treatments for all on the nhs too. take care dudes, try and have a good day <3

Long ago, in the early 70's, while in college, I went to a public demonstration of Rolfing which manipulates and massages the fascia to bring the body back into alignment and ease pain over a course of 10 to 12 treatments. I was an under-grad then and couldn't afford it, but it was very interesting. Just this week, I read an article in a magazine I picked up at the grocery store about the fascia. The magazine was "Women First", a common mag found near the register. The article didn't mention fibromyalgia, but it did mention pain and fogginess. I read the article with interest. I thought it might have some validity for someone like myself. It mentioned resources.

I know that when I first went to PT, my therapist would do "fascial work" which was like massage, but i liken it to the "isometrics of massage". She would hold and release the fascia in my neck and trapezius. It felt great, but it took a long time, and there was not much relief other than while she was doing the work. I think that makes a lot of sense. Especially because I have had a knot in my muscles. I use to be a personal trainer, and have a degree in Kinesiology. Because of that I'm good at noticing/distinguishing pains in my body and whether it's tendon, muscle, bone, organ etc. Having a knot in my muscles is NOT fibro. I still get knots once in awhile, and it is something that I can "fix" through muscle cream and massage and stretching. It makes sense that it isn't "tight muscles" but something else.
