I've been on them for ten years now. They don't take the pain completely away but makes it bearable to be able to go to work. But some days the pain is so bad I have to stay home so that I can take the pain medication along with my muscle relaxers as I can't take them while at the office because they make me not off. Unfortunately in most states the laws have changed to where PCP providers can only prescribe a thirty day supply and if the patients need more the doctors have to refer them to pain management centers. If you take the medication exactly as prescribed you will not get addicted to them. Unfortunately it's the ones who think if they take more than they are supposed to and end up with a higher tolerance to the meds and a lower tolerance to the pain are the onrd5who get addicted and get themselves into a mess and causes problems for responsible people who really need them.

I am on MSContin which keeps some pain at bay.my dr monitors me every month. I have had him 20 plus years. Other Drs don't feel comfortable prescribing this but soooooo helpful

I take fiorinal (barbiturate) for my chronic headaches 3x/day and it helps a lot with the fibro pain too. However with the opioid crisis doctor's are reluctant or unable to prescribe narcotics now in Canada. My doctor no longer can prescribe it. I will see a rheumatologist next week. If she cannot prescribe refills not sure what my options will be.

I do take a small dose of oxycodone 3x a day, definitely does help, heck, it can't make it worse, am I right?!

I'm on Tramadol also, but here in the US it is not a narcotic. It acts like a narcotic but it isn't. I read that online and asked my brother-in-law who is a pharmacist and he said that was true.
