Members overwhelmingly related to the experience of severe neck and shoulder pain that feels like a pinched nerve, describing it as a common and constant feature of fibromyalgia caused by muscle tension, trigger points, and stress-related muscle guarding. Several members found relief through deep tissue massage to work out knots, chiropractic adjustments, muscle relaxants like Baclofen, topical menthol products like Biofreeze, heating pads or ice packs, and addressing sleep position and pillow support to maintain proper alignment. A recurring theme was the importance of managing stress, maintaining range of motion through gentle stretching or yoga, and exploring options like trigger point injections, physical therapy, and pain management clinics when the pain becomes debilitating.

Hi, I have pretty much constant neck pain & headaches & am currently doing physical therapy due to a car accident, (just rear ended) anyway, the therapist said that "muscle guarding" is apparently a frequent cause of neck pain, like when you feel anxiety etc you hold your muscles tightly in your shoulders in an attempt to "protect" the neck muscles. I do take opiate pain meds but the muscle relaxant I use many nights actually helps with my neck pain the most. (Baclofen) Also the external rubs with menthol are good & icing it helps me too.

Hello! I get really bad shoulder pain almost every night and during the day if I do too much. I don't know if it's stress or not. Wish me luck tomorrow, I see a new pain doc and I'm praying they give me pain meds. It's been a long rough road without any. Feel better my friend!

Heatherw21... neck pain😖😖.. yes mine is constant from neck to shoulder blades. It seems to be a commonality of Fibro sufferers. Everyone is different but I think it's from stress & tightening up. The only thing I have found that helps (temporarily) is Biofreeze roll on. It's soothing menthol roll on, it smells menthol while putting on but the smell dissipates quickly. I can go out with it on & no one can smell it. Like I said it's temporary relief, when it wears off I put more on😊. I get it on line. It used to be better, they changed it a little but is still soothing. I hoped his helped💗. Deb

Massage has it really helped you?

I change positions all night and I have to sleep in a recliner because my hips and lower back can't handle the mattress. I use a soft crocheted blanket for a pillow. Once I do find a sleep position I can deal with, then I get a hot flash and it ruins it all.
