I read some people's stories and it scares me. I feel I cope quite well with the pain most of the time. Although I have only just been diagnosed I believe I have had this illness since my mid 20s (I thought pain was just par for the course of being a busy mum who worked and also raised children and ran a busy home) and I didn't realise until just recently that not everyone ached somewhere or everywhere every day. It's the chronic exhaustion that hits me hardest. Sometimes I feel like I've been… read more

Members connected over the overwhelming exhaustion that defines fibromyalgia for so many, with several sharing how fatigue brought them to their diagnosis and now limits their ability to drive, work, or leave the house despite once being active and capable. Many members described their belief that they had fibromyalgia for years or even since childhood before understanding that constant pain and exhaustion were not normal, with one member recalling collapsing in a parking lot before finally getting answers from a rheumatologist. A recurring theme was the unpredictable nature of the illness, with members encouraging rest without guilt, maintaining gentle activity to preserve strength, staying hopeful by focusing on one day at a time, and protecting mental health since stress and negativity can intensify both pain and fatigue.

It is so important to try and keep a positive frame of mind - hard on bad days I know, but one thing I have learned over the many years of suffering this illness, is that a negative mental state will increase you anxiety, which in turn will increase you pain. Keeping busy is vital - don't give yourself too much time to sit and think about how awful you may feel. But keeping busy must never be physically demanding activities - just be gentle and passive with whatever you choose to do.💐

I go through stages of feeling scared too. But this year I am in way less pain than last year so I try to remain hopeful and try not to get scared. Worrying about it only puts more stress on our body so I try to remember to take 1 day at a time.
