What Is The Purpose Of My Life?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I'm struggling to see the point or purpose in me being alive, I lost my career working with children due to my illness ,I'm not able to work at all now even doing other sorts of work, I have no children and am experiencing fertility problems . This means I cannot devote myself to a career ,job or bringing up a family. My life appears to be purposeless.

Dear Sammi
It has been said that we all have a story to tell and that somewhere inside of us there is a book waiting to be written. If you had a career working with children then you must have a wealth of stories long and short just waiting to be heard.just food for thought.
It can be hard living with this terrible condition but I hope you are feeling better soon.Don't let the bastxxds get you down.
Best Wishes
Colin

I was feeling the same about 2 years ago. I too had to quit my job with children, I was told to give up my career and stop working. Single with no kids i felt pretty purposeless. Ihave up my job and spent a year pretty much resting and i stuggled so much with finding a purpose.
I realised that plenty of my friends were struggling with stuff and needed someone to listen and space to chill out. I spent most of my days on the couch so I had plenty of time to listen and have people come chill out. I had the time to send encouraging txts and to hang out with those people. I could have people around in the evening and didnt have to get up early to go to work. It soon gave me a sense of purpose.
Try to hold into Hope that things can change.
I now work 3 days a week, 2 days with children and 1 day in the office. I still have to rest on my days off but it makes me feel so much better having something to get out of bed for. I built up work hours slowly!!! Started with a couple hours, then a few, then 10, now 20 hours.
Please don't let Fibro define who you are. We are all so much more than Fibro. We are not our career. I went through a grieving stage and started to spend some of my time figuring out who I am, what I like doing, how I could spend my time and trying to find positives.
I think allowing ourselves to grieve what we used to have is really important in moving forward.
Remember to be gentle on yourself as you go through this journey, it's not easy!! What would you say to your friends if they were going through what you are going through? I think too often we can be so hard on ourselves.
Don't give up.

Sweetheart don't let this hideous disorder destroy you. I know how you feel I have had several thoughts of ending my life but have not given in to it. Honestly you can contribute to life. If you have fertility problems you can adopt and they will consider you a good candidate especially as you have worked with children and devoted your career to working with children up till now. You can start a club and do all the admin and behind the scenes work from home when you are well enough. I started a netball club two years ago and now have 3 coaches working with 3 adult teams and 3 junior teams. It doesn't rule my life but it certainly adds a purpose and I have made some amazing new friends through it. With your experience with children you could start a youth club in your area or anything like that, recruit volunteers, work with your local active group to develop something your area needs. There is truly purpose in your life and I know you will find it, you will be successful and bring joy to people's lives I know you will. I'm here to talk if you need to!

I was a preschool teacher and quit when a flare became too much. I have worked on pamphlets with helpful activities for parents and babysitters as a way to use my experiences with children. I am now working on a young adult fantasy adventure book. Find something you enjoy, and take your time.

How about volunteering? That way you could help when you feel good but when you don't you won't have to work. I know there are a lot of agencies wanting volunteers and I'm sure some of them work with children.
