I have just been diagnosed with a very low vitamin D level, and have a 3 month course of supplements prescribed by the Dr.

Has anyone found that this helps ease the symptoms of fibro or am I hoping for too much...?

If it does help, roughly how long will it take before I feel some noticeable difference..

Members shared mixed experiences with vitamin D supplementation for fibromyalgia after someone was prescribed a three-month course for very low levels, with most reporting that while it may boost energy and mood, it typically does not significantly reduce fibro-specific pain. Several members emphasized the importance of pairing vitamin D with magnesium for better absorption and muscle cramp relief, noting that magnesium appeared more effective than vitamin D alone for managing pain and restless legs. A recurring theme was the frustration of ongoing symptom management, with some members finding relief through vitamin and mineral combinations while others saw no improvement at all, alongside broader struggles with medication side effects and the exhausting cycle of doctor visits.

Most studies show that people with fibromyalgia have low D3 levels. Low magnesium is also an issue, hence the cramps and restless legs. Magnesium is needed to help convert D3 into calcitriol. The two together would prevent the issues with calcium. Many doctors in the U.K. give elderly people calcium tablets, this creats more problems than it solves, as many do not add magnesium which is needed for calcium to be absorbed and used properyby the body.

Vitamin D by itself may make you feel more cheerful and energetic. Combined with magnesium and calcium, it could significantly reduce muscle pain and cramps. I've been using it for years and it's how I keep my pain under control. I don't take any medications.

Welcome to my world lol. I couldn't take the huge doses the doctors advise all at once so I take 3000 mg a day at dinner time since vitamin d3 is fat soluable--so it's better to take it with a large meal for absorption. Doesn't help my pain any but WOW does it help my energy. Magnesium helps more with the muscle pain for me. And yes, keep an eye on your Calcium levels if you take massive dosages.
