I have bouts of excess sweating on a daily basis but only from the neck up over. I saw my gp who could only suggest I was going through " the change," but after blood tests this was proven not to be the case
Its so bad it looks like I've just got out the shower and not dried my head my hair is literally soaked I have sweat running down my face and need a towel to keep drying me off. I feel so embarrassed I don't want to go out anywhere
Does anyone else suffer like this or have any suggestions… read more

Members connected over the deeply frustrating experience of excessive head and neck sweating, with many sharing that doctors often dismiss it as hormones or menopause even when tests rule those out, leaving them feeling embarrassed, self-conscious, and reluctant to go out in public. Several members found relief through practical approaches, including a prescription medication called Oxybutynin Chloride that one member described as life-changing, keeping rooms cool with fans, reducing sugar intake, staying hydrated, and requesting thyroid testing since underactive thyroid can trigger sweating. A recurring theme was the emotional toll of feeling judged or stared at while wiping sweat in public, avoiding makeup and hairstyling because it becomes pointless, and the relief of knowing they are not alone in this isolating symptom.

I suffered with excessive craniofacial hyperhidrosis (severe head & face sweating) for years. As soon as I would start to get warm I could feel the sweat starting to come out on my head and it would drip down my face and my neck. My hair would be soaked most of the time. The one time I was in a store for maybe 10 minutes at the most & I was sweating so bad that while looking through a rack of clothes that the sweat from my face was actually dripping on the floor because it was so bad. I was totally embarrassed and had to leave. The anxiety this type of sweating causes when out in public just makes you sweat more!! Later that night I did some research on this condition, and found the "name" for it (where you only have excessive sweating on the head and face and not excessive under the arms or anywhere else), & was trying to see what others who experienced this did for it & if anything worked for them. There were quite a few that talked about a prescription called "Oxybutynin Chloride" that they tried & how well it worked for them. I had already tried a roll-on type of med in the past which did not work for me at all, and the only other treatment I could see for this was a surgical one that can have serious consequences. I immediately made an appointment with my PCP and told him how bad the excessive sweating was for me & how horrible it is to live with. You are constantly self-conscious & I couldn't run to my desk fast enough at work to turn on the fan and try to cool off. Regardless, by the time I walked into work in the morning my hair was drenched & sweat was running down my face. This was all BEFORE I even started my 8 hour work day! Anyways, I told him about this prescription people were talking about & he said it wouldn't hurt to try it & see if it helped me. He prescribed a 5mg tablet that I am to take 2x a day. Well, I immediately had the prescription filled, and after I took a tablet that evening and one the next morning I had some errands to run. Let's just say that I had to run in and out of 3 different stores and NEVER BROKE A SWEAT!!! I did not have to wipe sweat from my face even once & my hairdo & makeup still looked decent!! I haven't noticed any bad side effects from this...I only notice the relief it has given me with the sweating. It was a blessing that I found out about it and was able to try it. It really does do the trick and give you your life back. I would suggest reading up on it (search for "Oxybutynin Chloride for Hyperhidrosis" & ask your doctor if it is something you could try. It is definitely worth seeing if it can help you too. I feel for anyone that goes through this as it is horrible & hard to hide the fact that you are sweating so bad when it is all on your head and dripping down your face. It is quite hard to cover that up! Good luck to all of you & I hope this can work for you as well. :)

I know people say to me why don't you make more of an effort you used to wear make up and have lovely long hair you'd style but when I start sweating my hair just clings to me so i've had it cut really short ( Jamie Lee Curtis) style and as you say its pointless putting makeup on as it either ends up a mess or wiped off. My docs said it was hormones thyroid medication but they've all been ruled out so I'm left just having to live with it. Hope they manage to sort yours out though, and its nice to know I'm not alone with this sending hugs

Yes! I've had it for years! My Dr. has tested me for early menopause to - no signs. The more fibro sites I visit the more people i see having excess sweating as a symptom. Some medications have this as a side effect also, like Cymbalta, which I take. I had the problem before the medication though. My Dr. gave me another medication to help the sweating. It didn't do much for me but does seem to help many of her other patients. It sucks! I don't remember the medication name but you might ask your Dr. about something to help. Hang in there!
