Members overwhelmingly confirmed that nightmares and vivid dreams are experienced by many in the fibromyalgia community, though opinions varied on whether they stem directly from fibro or from medications commonly used to treat it. Several members shared that medications like Tramadol, Cymbalta, Temazepam, and Amitriptyline triggered intense nightmares for them, while others pointed to stress, pain-induced neurotransmitter changes, shortened REM cycles, and sleep apnea as contributing factors. A recurring theme was the importance of consulting with doctors about medication adjustments, considering sleep studies to identify underlying issues, and finding personalized solutions whether through changing prescriptions, natural supplements, or grounding practices like prayer upon waking.

I have insomnia and I have nightmares as well when I sleep. They don't happen every night, but they do happen. Nightmares are brought on by several different factors. Stress and pain are causes because it causes the brain to release natural chemicals our body makes. Then neurotransmitters go crazy which is what happens with fibromyalgia. Another reason is medication, it can cause a chemically induced nightmare. When we introduce any form of medication to our body it integrates that into our natural chemicals. If the meds are not right for you, you might have an adverse reaction to them. Examples are agitation, anxiety, vivid dreams/nightmares ....etc

So the short answer is yes it could be from fibromyalgia. Sorry I get long winded sometimes.

There are many medications that can cause bad dreams. Could it be that? I do here insomnia is part of Fibro, but never heard the bad dreams part. The only time I've had bad dreams, it was a medication reaction. Hope you feel better soon.. Hugs

Jaxs2017- It was a supplement, and I noticed immediate changes. I had been feeling short-tempered, angry, amped up, etc. along with the nightmares. The supplement was actually a men's supplement for prostate issues. She uses it occasionally with certain female patients. It worked right away to clean the extra testosterone out of my system. It didn't flag with my regular medical doctor bc I still fell within the "normal" range. My naturopath said my number was not what she likes to see in a female my age. If you have never tried a naturopath, I encourage you to find a good one and give it a try. They can be expensive, but I've found mine to be worth every penny. She's really helped me get my life back and live WITH my fibro and adrenal issues rather than those issues running my life for me.

Sleep apnea is very common among fibro patients. have you had a sleep study done? My previous doctor said that there are studies linking lack or REM to fibro symptoms.

All I take is Savella, Tramadol, Ibuprofen 600 mg, singular, Zoloft 150mg. That's all and I have been on it for quite some time.
