Does anyone carry disability insurance? Wondering if it's worth getting/having. Thank you!
Sorry I just realized you were asking about something else. I read on the website that unless you are dying you will be denied the first two times. The first time you apply they just accept your application and deny you, the second time you appeal they process your application, they recommend you ask to be in front of a judge the third time you appeal and the judge will determine if you are disabled or not. They also recommend you get a representative/laywer for this. I am in the 3rd appeal to appear in front of a judge, they said they will send a letter 20 days before the appointment. It take up to a year or more to get an appointment for the judge. You an also apply for supplimental income, which is a little easier to get they only look at your financial resources, has to be below $2000. Hope this helps got all this after a lot of research, asking, questioning and headaches. But I got this from reliable resources.
All disability insurance policies exclude applications made by a person with a pre-existing condition. A pre-existing conditions means that your disability caused by a medical condition that was “active” before you enrolled in the insurance plan. Usually the pre-existing condition clause applies for the first 1-2 years after your initial enrolment. The exact time differs from insurance policy to insurance policy. So, if you become disabled from a pre-existing condition within 1-2 years from your date of enrolment, then you may not be eligible to apply for benefits. You would be excluded because of the pre-existing condition clause.
@A MyFibroTeam Member disability insurance is way different then government funded disability they are two different things
I am trying. Not going so well, but they say it takes a long time. I've only been trying since September. Was denied in January and I appealed. They just called me on Tuesday asking questions cuz they just reopened my case.
You usually have to get it before you are diagnosed with anything that is major. If you can find a company that will still take you, I say go for it. I got my from my employer when I worked for a hospital. It has helped a lot while I have been in the 3 year process to apply for government disability. A 60% income is better than no income.
