A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was recently diagnosed in February although I've been dealing with this for a couple of years. They have tried me on gabapentin and now I'm on duloxetine but neither one seems to work on the pain. Also can not sleep. Is there anything i could try to help with either one of these? I work full time so i really need to sleep and decrease the pain. Please help me.

if you fix your sleeping problem your pain levels will reduce. I am on trazadone for sleep and my nerve pain is way down because of fixing my sleep issues. But you can try things before pills. If you put lavender on your pillow it will help you sleep. If you take a hot bath with Epson salt and lavender essential oil it will help you sleep. Also if you can do yoga..there is many short ones for sleep online...if you do this prior to bedtime then seratonine is relased in your brain and this helps you sleep. Also I came up with a melatonin shake. Melatonin is produced in our body and this is what enables us to sleep. Many foods have allow your body to make this. A few are dark tart cherries, pineapples, bananas....I make a small smoothie with this before bedtime but don't put protein in it for bed because eating protein will keep you awake. Also eating a handful of walnuts will help as well. If you do these things regularly it will help and then you can see if you need another pill or not

Do you do any relaxation therapy or mindfulness? That can be helpful for sleep. You can get cds to talk you through different techniques and really they are a distraction and anti anxiety aid.

I don't sleep well either and use tramadol which helps relieve my pain and that is helpful but still not fantastic. The best sleep I used to have was when I was on amytriptiline but I think its because it just sedated me. I was on 40mg. It did nothing for the pain though and I couldn't move in the mornings but I slept all night.

just be careful with amitriptyline I was on it for a year and my bladder ceased to contract. So I ended up at a specialist and it showed I had a litre of urine in my bladder and I could not let a drop out....it ended up being a side affect of amitriptyline. I came off and no problems after that.

Lyrica has really helped for me for the fibro pain. Very expensive medication, but it has been good for me. It is not for everyone.
