Lawton, OK

For all the people in the Lawton, Oklahoma area I have been thinking about seeing if we can get together like once a month or something like that. I know I have team members in Duncan, Chickasha,OKC,Wichita Falls, ....etc I think even if we didn't get together for for support group meeting all the time, but did dinner or lunch, brunch, something like that. I have been thinking about this for the last few weeks and saw somebody else on my team asking about a local support group in her area. I… read more

Members celebrated the idea of organizing local in-person meetups for people living with fibromyalgia, with many expressing enthusiasm while noting they live too far away in locations ranging from Texas and Ohio to England and Canada. Several members suggested practical alternatives like online video meetings through Skype or Zoom so everyone could participate regardless of location, while others began exploring interest in organizing similar gatherings in their own areas. A recurring theme was the deep value of connecting with people who truly understand the condition, with one member sharing how regular meetups with friends who get it provide laughter, support, and freedom from judgment about invisible illness.

Hi I think this is a great idea, I am in the UK so a bit too far for me to travel but I know how much it helps to get together with friends or people who understand you. Once a fortnight I meet up with my two best friends whom I have known for 28 and 50 years, we have tea and cake and a good old moan get that out of the way then we have a real laugh, by the end of it all we usually have the waiting staff laughing along with us.

One of my friends was diagnosed with Fibro 5 years ago so the other said she was leaving the group in case it was her turn next. But that couple of hours or so chatting and laughing, knowing that no one is thinking things like "You don't Look Ill" etc does me the world of good.

So whether your group is three or thirty, just enjoy your time together, make new friends, have a laugh and enjoy.

Fingers crossed for you all
Denise xx
