I've been to several doctors but none of them seem to help. Recently I started smelling smoke/dirty ash tray smell. I don't know if this is a symptom of fibro or if something else is going on. Im wondering if seeing a Neurologist would be a waste of time and money?
I got told by my specialist that phantom smells are a symptom of fibro and very common. I also got told they're not necessarily phantom smells, they are most likely there somewhere and because of our hyper sensitivity to smells we smell it but others can't. I was once convinced my house was on fire, turned out there was a fire miles away but no one else could smell it
If you are having phantom smells etc then yes it is nurological
I been to and going back to see one for my migraine and numbness in my feet but I'm in the UK on the nhs so I don't have to pay for it x
@A MyFibroTeam Member, I've always had a sensitive sense of smell. I could pull into someone's driveway and tell you what they are having for dinner. Sometimes it's a curse having a good sniffer. But this smell is not coming from my house, I don't smoke and I mainly smell it at night when I'm laying down going to bed.
When I researched "smelling smoke" several people with GERD said they had this problem. I have GERD and its really bad now...but I also read some scary things about smelling things that arnt there. I have an appointment next week, I will let you know what he says...if I don't cancel it 😕
