Members connected over the shared struggle of losing weight while managing chronic pain, with many describing how flare-ups derail their progress and exercise often leaves them bedridden for days or weeks afterward. Several members shared strategies that helped them, including avoiding carbs and sugar, trying elimination diets like going gluten-free, breaking exercise into small 5-10 minute intervals throughout the day instead of longer sessions, and starting with gentle movements like short walks or low-resistance biking followed by stretching and hydration. A recurring theme was the frustration of being told to exercise more by doctors who don't understand the cost of physical activity, balanced by compassionate encouragement from others who emphasized listening to your body, experimenting to find what works, and giving yourself grace when pain makes healthy habits feel impossible.

I too have been struggling with weight loss. I can't seem to exercise enough and change my eating habits enough to see a loss. It's so frustrating!

I have found that aerobic exercise works wonders. I started very small - just a few minutes on a bike on it's lowest setting or a walk down the block. It helps pain levels enormously, but stretching and drinking lots of water are key. I would say give it a go, but start small! :-)

That seems inappropriate, newest info from my rheumatologist rec exercise in 5-10min intervals several times a day. I could never do aerobics without paying for it. Hugs, take care and listen to your gut.😃

Ditto. My pain management dr told me the other day. You should try aerobics to help fibromyalgia. My mind froze at that time. But I will get him next appt. if I attempt to do aerobics I will lay in bed for at least three weeks!!!! I tried Kundalini Yoga and it took me three weeks to recuperate.

I gained a lot of weight in a very short period of time, which made my fibro worse. I had Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery 6 years ago. With all of my medications I couldn't get rid of it, even with all the 5:00 a. m. gym time. I finally made the decision and lost 104 pounds pretty fast and my fibro was better than ever. In the last 1-2 years, though, my fibro has been back to terrible!
