I'm doing an OU course and I'm really struggling, not with the work but with concentrating. I seem to read paragraphs over and over again with nothing sinking in because my heads foggy and I'm in pain. Has anyone else or is anyone else studying or similar and have any tips to help me? Thanks everyone. X
I have found meditation/mindfulness is very helpful to help foggy-head and improve studying ability. I notice more mental stamina when I do it more- even 5 mins a day helps. You can get apps for it like insight-timer and headspace, countless vids on internet to talk you through it and then you can always do it on your own after. also trying to get more sleep, get to bed as"normal" time as you can, if you can. look at diet too- oily fish, seeds, nuts leafy greens and fruit especially
I don't know if I have any tips of my own help you but I have realized that my brain is very foggy since the fibromyalgia. I feel like I have Alzheimer's sometimes I can barely finish a sentence. It's frustrating and scary at the same time.
I'm in a Master's program and I have trouble with concentration too. If I have too much trouble I have to step away until I feel like I can concentrate again. When it comes to reading for school, it is so hard for me now. But I don't want any medications for that....never ending battle.
I received my first masters face to face with no problems before fibro. Had Fibro during my second masters programs online. Very difficult concentration and staying focused, made it to last couple of classes with a few incompletes. Group work was difficult especially if someone had an abrasive personality.
Your institution should have a Title II officer that can make reasonable adjustments regarding your concentration difficulties. ADA newest Title II info can be found here https://www.ada.gov/regs2010/titleII_2010/title...
Or go to department of education office of civil rights for information on post secondary students. Hope this helps and good luck.
I was also studying with the OU and have experienced the brain fog. Nothing sinks in when you try and read, the most annoying thing for me while studying was remembering what I was writing. The pain is getting me really down at present. I have rheumatiod arthritis , had it for 25 years, then told I had Fibromyalgia, my rheumatiod isn't controlled very well so my joints are very painful but now all my muscles hurt, just feel constantly tired and in pain. I feel let down by my consultant and his team. I saw another consultant who gave me seven weeks of steroids and a follow up appointment in November.Does anyone else in the group feel as though they are not listened to
