The last few weeks I've been smelling what seems like a dirty ashtray, or cigarette smoke. (I don't smoke) I researched it and found several things. One of them was it could possible be from GERD. I know several people with fibro suffer from stomach issues including myself. Has anyone else smelled things that at aren't there?

Members connected over the unsettling experience of smelling phantom cigarette smoke when no one around them smokes, with many initially fearing they were losing their minds before finding relief in knowing others shared the same symptom. Several members described additional phantom smells like burning, gas, or chemicals, with some linking the episodes to migraines, sinus issues, or heightened sensitivity to sensory input that can accompany fibromyalgia. A recurring theme was the validation and comfort of discovering they weren't alone, as many had spent months or years questioning their sanity or searching their homes for nonexistent fires before realizing it might be connected to their condition.

@A MyFibroTeam Member, no I do not live in an apartment. We have lived in this house for over 26 years and I've never smelled this smell before. I do feel better knowing I'm not the only one this is happening too.

I've never been diagnosed for migraines but I do get really bad headaches. That's when I first noticed it, but I haven't had a headache like that in a while but still smell the dirty ashtray smell randomly????

@A MyFibroTeam Member I have never been diagnosed with sjogrens but I have read about it and often wondered if I have it.

Wow, I have driven myself crazy looking for something burning in my house. I am glad to hear it isn't just me. I have had a lot of sinus problems (two surgeries) for about 20 years, if I get a sinus infection my new ENT will give me a nasal spray containing a antibiotic, it works a lot better for me then the oral antibiotic.

I just woke up and also smelt smoke for a few seconds and found this site when I looked into it. Was actually relieved to see other people with fibro get it as the alternative cause was much more scary!
