Hi
Ive been taking gabapentin for a while now and although it helped i put on over a stone in weight which im.sure cant have helped my fibro
When i stopped taking them the pain was back but i also lost all the excess weight with out really trying
Now my pain is back and am back to relying on pain killers
Im not a vain person but the extra weight depressed me , but i was coping better with the pain
Is weight gain a side effect of the gabapentin? Or was i just unlucky with it ?

Oh yes I gained 20 lbs on it...Lyrica has the same side affect....uuuuggghhh...I am only on pain meds now.
We should always be told about all possible side affects of our medications, they should give us as much information as possible,so that we can make fully informed choices for ourselves. it's quite worrying that they don't inform us.
I would ask to try Lyrica same family but might not have same effect. I have not put on weight since I was prescribed it nearly 2 yrs ago and my diet hasn't really changed. It's also good for anxiety.
It makes you gain weight. I'm up to 220lbs. I went off all my meds one time and the weigh just fell off. I had to go back on it because I couldn't stand the pain.
Lyrica is closely associated to gabapentin, so they would not even try me on it, I, too, had 20# weight gain on gabapentin (15# water weight). But the more weight I gained, the more excruciating the fibro pain was. I was a basket case in the Dr's office, sobbing uncontrollably (VERY unlike me). I know that it works very well for some, but it wasn't the right thing for me.
