Does it seem to you that staying in can just lead to inertia so that you feel like you can't go out? And, if you talk yourself into going, then momentum increases your capacity to go on?

Members connected over the challenge of leaving home when living with chronic pain and fatigue, with many describing how isolation can quickly lead to inertia that makes even simple errands feel overwhelming. Several members shared strategies that help them build momentum, including committing to regular outings like window shopping or cheap movies, asking family for accountability and support, pacing activities by shopping one store at a time before heading home, and recognizing that once they push past the initial hurdle, they often feel fine. A recurring theme was the difficulty of knowing whether to rest or push through on any given day, the guilt that comes with that uncertainty, and the importance of being kind to yourself while learning your body's limits.

Yes, absolutely. This was something I have recently been thinking about myself, so your post is very timely.
I used to be a home body anyway outside of work hours, happy in my own company and in my own space, that my ventures out of the house were only ever by necessity or because someone else was the instigator for it, but never me. Work though was a weird one, as if I was a different person when it came to work, no issues leaving the house, thrived on fast paced pressure cooker situations where I had to provide solutions all day round.
I changed my job a couple of years ago, and gradually the 2 people have become 1, so now because I have the capability to work from home I find myself doing it far too often, and then I find ways of doing things from home that I should go out for (online shopping).
Once I get going, I'm fine, - momentum like you said. But taking that step has become the issue now.....

I have made a commitment to myself to leave the house as often as possible and find people to visit, or plan events like movies cheap ones and shop. Window shopping is great, it takes my mind off my pain and I am able to shop one whole store and when I hurt too much I go home. I am really enjoying myself. I haven't been on the computer lately because of Christmas activities, and being to tired. Then I had an RFA on my cervical area, on my shoulders. I am going to therapy, and I am gaining range of motion on my right shoulder, but the pain is so much, but they said they have to do both sides at the same time.. It is so painful, I have a shaky voice and I had it done 4 days ago. so only one more week to go, before I have some pain relief. I am tempted to take a oxycodone so I can sleep. I have iced for 4 days now. Any suggestions? I have to say I had pretty good pain relief for almost 11/2 years last time I had it done.

I totally agree. I can get housebound very easily. I will ask my husband to do an errand for me when I could do it myself. I hesitate to leave the house unless I have an appointment. I'm not a person who enjoys shopping. I do like going to Value Villiage because there are unusual things to look at and I like to save money.
