I consider this to be my most challenging and frustrating symptoms and it affects a huge part of what I do with work and communicating with people. I use technology a lot for my memory, but when you forget to use it, that in itself creates issues. Drives me nuts, because it's so far removed from how I used to be.

Members connected over the profound grief of losing cognitive abilities once central to their identities, with many describing the shift from being sharp problem-solvers and high performers to struggling with memory loss, word-finding difficulties, and feeling trapped or emptied of thought. Several members shared that stress and untreated anxiety or depression can worsen symptoms, and recommended checking for sleep issues and reading The Fibro Manual by Ginevra Liptan for understanding the neurological mechanisms behind fibromyalgia-related cognitive decline. A recurring theme was the emotional journey of mourning one's former self while slowly accepting a new normal, with some members finding it helpful to laugh through difficult moments and focus on what remains rather than what was lost.

Oh wow, you know, I scroll through all the different questions people post on here, and there are heaps where I can provide perhaps some sort of helpful response, but your question is one of my sorest issues, and has been for quite some time now.
I used to be a machine. That's what I was known for: the girl who could navigate the most complicated problems and think out the solution for anyone. I still remember what she was like, an absolute brainiac. I used to have a near photographic memory, I could recall conversations verbatim from months or years earlier. Now I randomly forget someone's name I've worked with for years, use the wrong words all the time, and forget what I'm saying halfway through a sentence. But the most disturbing for me these days is feeling like there is an emptiness in my brain, where someone asks me how I feel about something and I have no response, not because I don't have an opinion but because my brain refuses to let me think! I can't comprehend so many things that used to be part of who I was, one of my favourite things to do was have psychological debates with friends, now I can't form a thought!
I still have a very demanding job that is heavily based on problem solving and memory, two things I can't do well anymore. Not sure how long I can stick it out, or fake it for....
Sorry I don't have any answers. The only thing that made this make any sense to me was reading The Fibro Manual by Ginevra Liptan. The way she explains the mechanism behind Fibro helped me to understand the issues I now have with my brain, and that perhaps one day there could be a fix for it.

@A MyFibroTeam Member your comments are spot on for me. I feel like I've become a person I don't recognize, I can't relate to. I too was the go to person who could resolve situations without batting an eye. Now I can't even remember foods I use to cook or eat. It's like half of my brain is dark and I feel the dark taking over. It's scary and lonely
