Been taking muscle relaxers every evening like my doctor instructed for two years now. We keep increasing the dosage. It does nothing. I'm still wide awake and I feel no ease in my muscle tightening or reduction of spasms. Modern medicine is not helping. I don't want liver problems from all toxic chemicals. I'm trying to get better not sicker. Since there is no cure and this illness is a mystery, I thought maybe just maybe someone out there may have had some feedback on a holistic or eastern… read more

Members shared a range of alternative and holistic approaches for managing hypermobility syndrome and fibromyalgia, with many finding relief through eastern medicine when conventional treatments fell short. Several members described success with acupuncture, chiropractic care, naturopathic medicine, Chinese herbs, and CBD, with one member celebrating three months completely symptom-free after working with a specialized acupuncturist in Phoenix and continuing care locally. A recurring theme was the importance of finding practitioners with deep knowledge of fibromyalgia, being willing to try different providers until finding the right fit, and combining alternative therapies with proper sleep support to reduce pain and improve quality of life.

Hi. I use a number of alternative therapies: Chiropractic, Acupuncture, Naturopathic, Remedial Massage. I get more relief from these than any medication I was ever on, hence I decided to quit the medication completely, and now the only prescription meds I take are just to help me sleep.
Turning point for me recently was going to see a rheumatologist who was listed as an expert in Fibro, and when he examined me he said, verbatim, "I don't have the expertise to help you". I was destroyed, but it also changed my attitude towards this whole thing. So now I research the crap out of everything, I think about my future and what I need it to be when I get there, and I look at the problems I currently have that would prevent that future from happening, and I research ways to treat those problems. Some work, some don't. But I have taken control now, the doctors don't know my body as well as I do.

@A MyFibroTeam Member, I have posted my whole experience how I have achieved what I feel is remission from my firbromyalgia. I posted it on the Q&A section of this site. I don't know exactly how to find it but if you put in the search bar acupuncture or maybe it's on my page. See if you can find it because it's very detailed.
It a nutshell, I was hopeless and in so much pain. Spent many days in bed going through most of what everyone goes through on this site. It was horrible and all the drugs they gave me just made things worse.
I was crying really hard one night thinking how my life was going to be so miserable at a time when I should be out there enjoying my retirement years. I saw no hope.
That moment my husband called the airline and booked me on the next flight out to Phoenix to see a quite remarkable acupuncturist named Dr. Liu. Never in a million years would I have ever thought that this might help me. But I kept my mind open and went.
Dr. Liu is nothing short of a miracle worker. I stayed in Phoenix for two weeks and left with having zero fibro pain. I was actually pain free after visit number one. I cried every day I saw him because of how happy I was. My pain was gone, my energy was high, and my sleep was awesome!!
I had already taken myself off of all fibro drugs and Dr. Liu gave me Chinese herbs to take. They are for good circulation, adrenal fatigue, stress, sleep, and central nervous system balance.
I came home a new woman. Felt like my old self again. I felt no fibro at all. Now that I was home I needed to find someone who could duplicate what happened in Phoenix. The first guy I went to was bad. He didn't understand fibro so I kept looking. Found a great guy here up in Salt Lake. I asked this doc if he was just treating my symptoms and he said no, his goal was to cure me.
As I said before, I feel that I am in remission. I have not had fibro for three months. This is my miracle!
Just be warned that not every acupuncturist is created equal. if one doesn't work, another one will. I personally like the Chinese method the best. but try to get a referral from someone or read lots of reviews. Also, find one that has a deep knowledge of fibromyalgia.
I wish you the best!!

I take CBD now that it is legal where I live. It helps a lot without any side effects and is not addictive. I can sleep better and I can use as much as I need without worrying about possible overdosing. It doesn't create any 'high' feelings but I feel better emotionally because I feel better and sleep better.

I have used acupuncture. It help some, but I had to have treatment every week to two weeks. Insurance didn't cover it and after losing my job I couldn't afford it any longer.
