Members overwhelmingly confirmed that stress significantly worsens fibromyalgia symptoms, with many describing how stress causes muscle tension, exhaustion, and intensified pain flares that can quickly undo periods of feeling better. Several members shared that doctors have identified stress as one of the top triggers for fibromyalgia alongside lack of sleep, with some believing chronic stress over many years contributed to developing the condition in the first place. A recurring theme was the importance of stress management through therapy, mindfulness practices like Byron Katie's work, accepting the condition's unpredictability, and creating calm environments, though many acknowledged how difficult it is to escape stress when it surrounds daily life.

Sending you hugs Denise. Fully understand how the stress gives you flares. Same thing happens to me. It totally throws my symptoms into overdrive.

Here's hoping you get some time to relax and destress. Hugs to you.

My doctor said the two worst things for fibro are stress and lack of sleep.

Yes, stress definitely makes fibro worse. During stress the body contracts muscles.

@A MyFibroTeam Member btw I love the inscription on the bench. I'm a 'cissy Southerner' (or whatever you lot up North call us these days lol) but my godfather was a Lancs man and spoke in much the same terms, so I got what it said as soon as I saw it. Best times I ever had in recent years was living in County Durham, folks were so nice up there... down here around London so many people are just grinding their teeth all the time...

I've always thought that this was true. I've had stress all my life and if I get anything at all now to stress me or cause anxiety (which is very easy now) then the pain reflects this. Fibro makes us so sensitive to everything, it's like our senses are working overtime. Love and hugs. :)
