Members shared deeply divided experiences when asked about acupuncture for widespread pain, with some finding significant relief that reduced stress, tension, and pain for a week or more per session, while others tried it for months or even years without any benefit. Several members mentioned that cupping helped neck and shoulder pain, and one person highlighted the importance of finding a skilled practitioner after a traumatic experience with needles placed incorrectly. A recurring theme was the frustration of investing time and money into treatments that may or may not work, alongside the emotional toll of having pain dismissed as psychological rather than physical.

I had acupuncture and yes it did help for about a year and then I had to be referred to a pain specialist who tried two or three different medications and then a different type of acupuncture which just made me ill. When I saw him a few weeks ago all he seemed to be interested in saying is that because I have mental health problems I was causing the pain myself because I'm depressed, I know that if you're depressed you can make your pain feel worse (unconsciously so) but when your pain is worse you feel more depressed but why does my mental health always get blamed for any pain I get. I'm fed up of Dr's not understanding my pain is real NOT in my head.

Have been having acupuncture for 20 years, works for me. Cupping seems especially helpful for my neck and shoulder pain.

I haven't tried acupuncture but I have recently had a course of hypnotherapy, which has been brilliant. I feel much more relaxed and I really do think the stress side of things makes the fibro worse. I am also sleeping better for it.
For pain I tend to take Homeopathic ARR 200 (arnica, Ruta, and rhus tox) which has no side effects and is pretty good.

Did acupuncture for 6 mo regardless of how much pain it caused me because I thought eventually it would help. I was wrong, I put myself through so much pain for nothing.
