I'm pretty sure that my car accident brought on my fibromyalgia. Has anybody else have it start after trauma? Or know what started there's?xx

Members shared powerful stories about what they believe triggered their fibromyalgia, with physical trauma emerging as a common theme, including car accidents, surgeries, childbirth complications, physical assault, and untreated infections like Lyme disease. Several members described extreme stress as a catalyst, whether from caregiving for a terminally ill parent, raising children, or surviving sexual assault, with one member offering a theory that fibromyalgia may be the body's physical response to PTSD. A recurring theme was the search for answers and validation, with many finding comfort in knowing that trauma, whether emotional or physical, is widely recognized as a potential trigger for the condition.

My rheumatologist thinks the car accident I was in caused mine too. She explained it like this.....when we were hit the pain switch in my brain turned on when my body was jerked forward in the seat belt. The switch broke when my body was slammed back. I hit my head pretty hard on the back of my seat. The switch can't be shut off now.

Of all the research and group sites I've been on I've developed a theory that its caused by any extreme stressful situation. For some this situation can be a gradual one and we suppressed it until our bodies couldn't handle it. For others it can be one single situation that our bodies reacted to. Kinda like when people have a stroke and they are left with some physical deficits depending on what area of the brain was affected. My theory is we all suffer from PTSD and fibro is our deficit. Most people with PTSD suffer with mental deficits. While our bodies react and turn against us. I hope I'm making sense. It makes sense in my head but when I go to typing I can't figure out the right words to say.

I had thyroid cancer and had a total thyroidectomy. It started soon after that.
