Members shared mixed but largely positive experiences with gabapentin for managing pain, with many reporting significant relief at doses ranging from 900mg to 1800mg daily, though some needed dosage adjustments to find what worked best for them. Several members mentioned common side effects including weight gain (up to 60 pounds for one member), initial grogginess or brain fog that typically subsides within a week, and increased appetite that can be managed with healthy snack choices. A recurring theme was the medication's effectiveness for nerve pain, restless legs, and nighttime pain relief, though members emphasized the importance of working closely with doctors to find the right dose and being aware that individual responses vary widely.

I take 300 mg 3 times a day. It helps me a lot. I do not have the sensation of something running all over my body. It helps the Elavil work well. I asked my doctor about it causing weight gain. She told me it can increase the appetite. I choose healthy snacks and it hopefully will not be a problem. I have been on it for a long time now.

I just increased from 900mg a day to 1800mg a day. Huge difference! Much less pain now, fewer breakthrough events. No noticable side effects.

I take it as needed for flares. It makes me feel out of it, like asleep with my eyes open. Numb mentally, difficult to focus, but sometimes I just need the pain relief.

I take 1200 mg at night for the past 8 months or so. It's helped enormously with not waking up in pain and for awhile there I was sleeping pretty good. Now I am waking up again all the time (not usually from pain) so I have added in melatonin and so far that seems to be helping. If I gained any weight from the gabapentin it was maybe 5# at most.

I take Gabapentin 300mg 3x day. It used to make me sleepy, but it's more to help me get through the day. It really helps a lot and I've been on it for almost 2 years.
