When I am in social situations with others I am a compulsive talker. Once I get going I have a very hard time stopping. I get quite hyper and my heart starts racing and I find it almost impossible to stop talking. I don't like it and I know it must be irritating for others. Sometimes it's just go nice to be with people that one can't help chatting - and chatting - and chatting. One feels the need to connect and to do that through talking. My husband is like this. I have to remind him, nicely, to take a breather every once in a while. Which is what you might try to do. Here's what my doctor told me to tell hubby - Keep a bottle of water in your hand. When you realize that you are "chatting up a storm" , excuse yourself and take a sip or two. Then take a few deep breaths, another wee drink of water and a few more deep breaths. You'll find that soon you'll learn to pace yourself.
I also think it could be because we are sometimes isolated with this illness that when we feel decent and have a chance to socialize, we overdo it. Lol. I sometimes have the same problem, so when I recognize that I've been monopolizing the conversation, I ask the other person a sincere question about themselves or what they think about what we're discussing so that they know that I'm interested in them. Because I truly am! I'm an introvert and I do need my alone time, but I LOVE people and I love to hear about their lives.
Perhaps try asking questions and take a sip of water while you're listening. People love to be asked sincere questions about themselves. I know I do!
Lol I have to laugh. I can talk n talk n talk. Usually end up saying the same things. But I was this way before. My son is add adhd. Gets us going n we'll talk for hours
I agree with the isolation as well. My husband loves to talk, he can talk to a stranger for an hour or more. LOL It's great when we can go out & see people. He is also on home dialysis, so more isolation.
I only find I tend to talk on/not talk (either or) is when my anxiety is increased & I find I'm stressed..
