Members shared their experiences navigating the often lengthy and frustrating process of obtaining disability benefits for fibromyalgia, with timelines ranging from five months to two years, and many emphasizing that initial denials are extremely common and often require appeals or hearings to ultimately succeed. Several members highlighted the critical importance of having a specialized disability lawyer and getting doctors to complete detailed forms documenting inability to work, with one member noting their lawyer secured approval in five months along with significant back pay. A recurring theme was the emotional toll of waiting while managing multiple debilitating conditions, met with encouragement from the community to persist through denials and keep fighting for the benefits they deserve.

I got denied twice and went for a hearing and got it. I have heard getting denied the first time is the norm. I agree that your dr is your asset.

Yes, I did in 2006 along with a couple of disc problems and depression. I used a social security disability lawyer and i had it in 5 months plus back pay of 16,000.00. She would not take a case unless she knew she could win.
