Members connected over the frustrating experience of hypnic jerks, the involuntary muscle spasms that jolt you awake just as you're falling asleep, with many sharing that it happens nightly and makes getting quality rest extremely difficult. Several members described strategies that have helped them cope, including muscle relaxers, focusing on reading before bed to quiet racing thoughts, cooling sprays for burning feet, and cortisone injections or remedial massage for related pain, though some cautioned about side effects from medications like Cymbalta or sleeping pills. A recurring theme was the relief of finally having a name for this sensation and discovering it's a common fibromyalgia symptom, with members expressing gratitude for not feeling alone in their struggles.

I've just had another ultrasound done on left buttock & now will have more cortisone injection in hip area. It is okay for a couple weeks, then hurts again. I've actually been having remedial massage. Full body with emphasis on buttocks. Geez it hurts, but it really works for at 6-8 weeks. I don't like drugs. They make me woozy, brain dead & I don't think any really fix anything. Just mask the problems. I was taking so many pills to "help", that I ended up in drug rehab for 3 weeks to wean myself off all the crap. Now I am very particular on what I will take. Absolutely No sleeping pills for me. I end up a walking zombie. I hate cortisone as well, but the docs don't have any new miracle yet.

Yes! This happens to me every night. Just as I'm falling asleep I have uncontrollable jerky feeling and my body jerks it takes awhile to relax and feel sleepy again. I think it may be my medications causing this uncontrollable feeling.

@A MyFibroTeam Member I get burcitus in both hips and shoulders if you see a rheumatologist they can give an steroid injection into the areas that hurt which will reduce the inflammation
