How To Get My Muscles To Relax
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have such a problem with tense muscles. I take muscle relaxers regularly but for the past 4 or 5 days I've had a horrible time with my neck and shoulder muscles. What can I do to get them to relax besides oral medication.?

I use Aspercream which calms the twitching enough to function. Or if I'm where I can, my tens unit is a life saver. They now sale simular items at the drugstores. Best of luck to ya 💜

I'm a giver, even with all my pain I've been told I have a healing touch, most days I can't give a long/strong massage but it seems to have paid off. I always love to give massages to my boyfriend. He has picked up quickly and has really learned my body. He knows how to find sore points and relieve them with little to guidance, or just knows any little bit will pick me up when I'm feeling helpless and tightly wound in my shoulders. He contimplates being a massage therapist specializing in chronic pain after knowing me and seeing me on a day to day basis. Most important advice I can give is to find someone, recommending a professional, to learn and love your body, that is a big part of my good days. Sure massage is expensive not as pricey as the toll fibro takes on me.

I have many things that I try because they don't always work. A tens unit is very helpful, a heating pad, hot shower, massage using my healing oil, stretching out the muscles by doing different shoulder & neck stretches & rotations, meditation to relieve stress, apply Tiger balm (love almost as much as my oil)

Biofreeze is great for tightness like this! You can buy it online or from a chiropractor. Make sure you try to find the kind with 4% active ingredient (some only have 3.5%). I have had issues with muscle tightness which in turn causes more pain for years. For the past couple of months I have been going to physical rehab and it is incredibly helpful. At every session I have a chiropractic adjustment, Grastin (similar to Gua Sha, my therapists use Biofreeze and electro-stim while I have this done) and PT. Everything helps to stretch my muscles in a way that I can't on my own and it has significantly decreased my pain and strengthened muscles in my weakest areas to help prevent future flare ups and muscle tightness.

It's a creation my roommate created. I have NO idea what all is in it other then Vit E, St. Johns, and Lavender... but I know it has like 10 or more different oils & herbs in it.
