Headaches

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

So I just found out that my doctors have been treating the wrong kinda headache. They said I had tension headaches.
Well finally after waiting months n months I got to see a neurologist who told me I'm getting migraines. But that I have chronic migraines. I get headaches everyday.
Does anyone one have any recommendations to ease the pain.

Members rallied around someone newly diagnosed with chronic migraines after years of misdiagnosis, sharing a wealth of practical strategies including cold therapy (ice packs, cooling caps, cold cloths), Excedrin Migraine, peppermint essential oil, caffeine, rest in dark rooms, and dietary changes like going gluten-free or eliminating trigger foods. Several members emphasized the importance of keeping a detailed migraine journal to identify personal triggers (food, weather, light, stress), getting eyes checked, trying treatments like Imitrex or Keppra, and exploring complementary approaches such as acupuncture, massage, chiropractic care, or addressing related issues like TMJ or sinus problems. A recurring theme was that migraines are deeply personal and require patience and persistence to find what works, with members encouraging each other to think outside the box, be kind to themselves, and lean on both migraine-specific support groups and the fibromyalgia community for understanding and hope.

Welcome to the world of migraines. You have just entered a new realm. Just like Fibro get on a migraine site for support, it's worth it. I too suffer from chronic fail migraines along with a migraine called hemiphilegic migraine. This migraine mimics a stroke in symptoms, it's scary.

I would suggest one of the migraine caps which is a hat that can be filled with an ice pack it comes with. This can help with the pain. I'd also would keep a migraine journal of all your symptoms daily to help you I identify triggers. Any other questions feel free to ask I've been suffering for way over 10 yrs. Just like Fibro be kind to yourself it will pass. Peace and blessings.

Cervicogenic migraine is a migraine that comes from any other source other than the head. It comes from referred pain in the neck. This is worth a conversation with a neurologist to confirm this diagnosis.

I was diagnosed with Chronic migraines in January, my migraine was a year old last week. Nothing seems to work for me, I have cool patches that I sleep with called Migraine Kool n Soothe, they help a little. I was told to get my eyes checked to make sure they were ok, when I did I couldn't read the bottom line so was advised to get glasses, I'd just been diagnosed with fibro when I had them checked too. The man I saw was really good and said because of the health problems he wanted me to get them checked every year

I started getting them very bad couple of years ago too. Times my supervisor would say you look white as a ghost, go home. Anyway, tried a few different things and nothing then went gluten free and very little sugar and I don't have them at the moment just minor headaches here and there now. Oh, no sweeteners either. They are not your friend.
