Members responded to someone struggling with a 45-pound weight gain and knee pain, with many sharing that Gabapentin and other fibromyalgia medications can cause significant weight gain and fluid retention, while others attributed it to reduced activity, poor sleep, and slowed metabolism. Several members described practical strategies that have worked for them, including walking on a treadmill for even 15 minutes twice a day, using a recumbent bike while watching TV, cutting out sugar and processed carbs, trying Garcinia Cambogia as a natural appetite suppressant, and incorporating gentle yoga or Pilates at home to build strength without overwhelming the body. A recurring theme was the importance of consulting with a doctor to determine if medications are the root cause, balancing the benefits of certain drugs against their side effects, and being patient with yourself as you find small, sustainable changes that work for your unique body and energy levels.

There is also a relationship between lack of sleep and weight gain

Think about getting a recumbent bike and just peddle away at your leisure while you watch tv, you can take a break as often as you want and sit comfortably. Do it whenever you feel like doing it from a few minutes at a time and work your way up if you want. I have one and I use it to improve mobility and pain. If you eat the best you can (yes I know with fibro it can be hard) and try this easier form of exercise I hope you can lose the weight you want to.

As each person reacts differently to each drug... So does each persons body react to the whole weight loss weight gain scenario....
If you're someone like me for example on the other side of this coin struggling to keep weight on and you literally have no avenues left to you , or so it feels...
They always so to people with weight gain problems that "oh you could diet or exercise or eat better." But none of that's going to help if the drugs you are taking are slowing your body's natural metabolism down to almost nothing ....
The main thing is to find out if you're meds are the cause first and then act accordingly... A Dr would be able to point you in the direction of nutritionists or health advisors ... Anything that might help if something's wrong x x
Good luck x

I still struggle with weight even though I have never taken any of these meds. Personally I believe some is due to stress, lack of sleep and inactivity from loss of energy. I also wonder about thyroid and hormonal change since menopause. Since I hit 50... 12 years ago, I have had big problem losing weight. But definitely not from meds.

I lost 30 pounds three years ago and kept it off. Now I need to lose 30 more pounds but is a struggle. I had to give up Lyrica and all sodas even diet ones.Giving up sugar helped the most. My doctor wants me to give up all bread and pasta. It is rough!!!!!!I fill half my plate with fresh vegetables and /or cooked and get enough protein. Cut down on fruit because the sugar sits in your middle and turns to a big belly and waist line. Anyway this has worked for me.
