Members shared the heartbreaking reality of leaving jobs they loved due to fibromyalgia, with many describing positions in nursing, retail, and caregiving that became physically impossible as pain, fatigue, and unreliable energy made them unable to stand for long shifts or even get out of bed. Several members discussed survival strategies including applying for Social Security Disability (a process that can take up to two years), utilizing food stamps, negotiating flexible work-from-home arrangements with understanding employers, living on a single income, and exhausting savings and retirement funds to stay afloat. A recurring theme was the emotional toll of being called lazy or unreliable after years of pushing through pain, coupled with the fear and uncertainty of waiting for disability approval while bills pile up and independence slips away.

I'd you feel you need to rest make sure your boss knows what's going in with you, when I got diagnosed I gave a doctors letter and the most information I could find and gave it to my boss. Luckily/unfortunately his mother in law also has Fibro and he understands the condition so now if I really have an off day and can't move I stay home and he even checks up on me every few hours, very patient man... I try not to do it too much but if it's necessary he understands...

I can't work right now. I'm filling for disability. I get food stamps from the state as well as children support. I'm also lucky that my landlord is my boyfriend. I know it sounds weird but I pay him rent n get all of mind n my sons food etc. He's a life saver. He's allowing us to live here rent free but everyone I miss paying I have to pay back it's the same for any money I need to borrow.
Filling for ssd is a pain. I'm waiting on my hearing which can take up to 2 year. Ugh
Best of luck ๐Ÿ’œ

The best thing you can do is pace yourself....that's why it take me all day...on a good day, to clean our small house... We live in the guest house on the property. Cute 2 be bungalow...lol and I don't even clean the 2nd room..lol
With me I got gradually worse and worse.Being the Owner of a Bar I learned real well to smile thru my pain, most of my customers didn't know.

I gave up work because i worked in retail and physically couldn't stand for more than 4 hours and then i would be unable to walk the rest of the day. I'm on benefits at the moment, which i hate because i'm always in debt. Hoping to get into employment that works around my condition.

I had to stop working because of the dizziness, pain and fatigue. I was able to draw long term disability for two years. Now it has stopped. I have filed for SSD and have been turned down twice and have appealed. My husband works but we could use the income. We will just have to watch carefully what we spend.
