Members discussed the observation that many with fibromyalgia share overlapping symptoms like vitamin D deficiency, back and joint problems, fatigue, and sleep issues, and expressed frustration that doctors often say these conditions aren't directly related to fibro. Several members shared comprehensive symptom lists from fibromyalgia literature, noting that these ailments have been recognized as part of the condition for decades, and connected low vitamin D to reduced sun exposure due to limited mobility and energy. A recurring theme was the emotional toll of navigating dismissive medical care, insurance barriers, and finding doctors who truly listen, with members offering one another validation, practical advice, and compassionate solidarity in the face of systemic frustration.

In one of my books on Fibromyalgia, there is a list of conditions that are symptoms of fibro. One of the books I recently bought has a list that is very similar. A few of the symptoms are: mental and physical fatigue, sleep problems, high spinal fluid levels of substance P, morning stiffness, anxiety, irratable bowel, irritable bladder, headaches, Raynaud' phenomena, dry eyes and mouth, depression, numbness and tingling in legs and arms, feelings of swelling in hands and feet, pelvic pain, fascial and head pain, visual problems, auditory problems, respiratory dysfunction, cognitive problems (decreased attention span, decreased concentration and impaired short term memory), hypersensitivity to noise, odors, heat and cold, clumsiness, mitral valve prolapse, restless leg syndrome/periodic leg movement disorder, allergies, hypoglycemia tendencies, joint hypermobility, vasopressor syncope (fainting, light headedness, low blood pressure and high resting heart rate), digestive issues. One book published in 1995 and the other in 2014 and yet the symptoms are still pretty much the same.

As far as the vit D deficiency, it goes to reason Vit D we get from sun exposure. With Fibro people don't get out as much and tend to be home bound more often because of other symptoms. Not as much natural sunlight means not as much vit D. I try to make it outside 2 or 3 x's a day for 10-20 min. at a time without sunscreen, even when I'm in a flare. I don't have the D deficiency. My husband, due to work schedule, does not make it outside and has to take D suppliments...

Let me tell u a lil story. Back in early 2012, I suddenly developed swelling & more distinct pain in & around my left ankle. With no valid answers from ANY drs. Well, after couple MRIs, an orthopedic decided 2 do sx 2 repair couple torn tendons in my ankle/extreme lower left leg area. Once he got in 2 do this somewhat 'simple' repair, after sx he informed me that the ligament from ankle/lower leg, was literally "deteriorating"...which was actually quite a shock 2 me. I asked him if my Fibro could've been a cause 2 all this BS sx & the apparent deterioration of my left leg ligament. He looked at me, with kind of perplexed look on his face, saying, " I wouldn't think so"....as if they really aren't sure! It's a disease that a lot of drs, particularly our PCPs, just simply do not know enuff about. Most of them simply dismiss this anomaly as a 'chronic pain disease'...plain & simple. Well, idk if anyone else feels this way, but dismissive answers such as that, are not sufficient answers 2 me! There is a reason why this disease developed in the first place & a deteriorating ligament 4 no apparent reason. Or at least a lackadaisical answer of "I wouldn't think so"....very frustrating
