Members enthusiastically embraced an article proposing that fibromyalgia progresses in stages, with many sharing relief at finally having validation for their experience of worsening symptoms over time despite some doctors insisting the condition doesn't progress. Several members identified strongly with specific subsets described in the article, particularly Subset 6 (fibromyalgia with associated conditions) and Subset 7 (fibromyalgia with allergies and sinus issues), while others shared how surgeries, injuries, and other health conditions seemed to trigger or worsen their fibromyalgia symptoms. A recurring theme was gratitude for feeling less isolated and 'crazy,' with members emphasizing the importance of self-management strategies like Epsom salt baths, stretching, pacing activities, and listening to your body, since medications typically address only about 20% of the pain.

I do feel that fibromyalgia is progressive. This could be a result of the other conditions that I have, however, I agree that we go through stages.

I'm subset 8, and I also agree that FM is a progressive disease, I've seen it in myself and the drastic decline in my health since being diagnosed in 2012....

I agree to there being Fibro stages. I also feel it changes day to day, and if I've been too physical or active. It feels good to act somewhat normal....but you pay for it for days after.

Yes, thanks for posting! This is so interesting, and makes so much sense! I am very clearly a #6. I can't believe I've never heard of this before, since the article was written 9 yrs ago and I try to read so much about fibro whenever my brain allows. Personally, mine did not progress. I woke up with all of it, full blown #6, overnight in 2005. No previous problems at all. Nor has it gotten worse since then. I do a much better job of coping and managing than I did in those first years, though.
