So this has nothing to do with fibro but I would like to hear what everyone thinks.
I moved my son who is 12 in the middle of last year. He said he'd get picked on for being the new kid. As the year went on the story would get worse. As I think he's saying things r worse because he wants to do online School.
I don't know what to do. He is very anti social but I think it's important to go to school n not sit at home.
Any thoughts??

Members rallied around a parent grappling with whether to keep their 12-year-old son in traditional school despite bullying or switch to online learning, with opinions divided but united in prioritizing the child's mental health and well-being. Many members shared their own experiences with bullied children, emphasizing the importance of involving school counselors, ensuring zero-tolerance policies are enforced, and supplementing any schooling choice with social outlets like sports, scouts, or church to prevent isolation. A recurring theme was that while in-person school offers valuable life lessons in resilience, no educational setting is worth sacrificing a child's mental health, and several members who chose homeschooling reported positive outcomes when paired with intentional socialization opportunities.

I took my daughter out of school when she was 14 (problems being bullied, socialising etc)and it was the best thing i could have done for her.She had online learning at her own pace. She did well in her exams, and hopes to sell her Art next year. Carolyn found it easier studying at home without distractions and your son may too. Plus if he misses a lesson they are archived so he can do it later and access live help. Give it a go ! (8 years later we have found out she is Autistic and has cfs/fibro !)

Well, I've dealt with the school system and bullying....lets just say bullying occurs on a daily basis and a lot of it not only goes on right in front of the staff but there are teachers that bully too. My child has some learning disabilities she's always had an IEP and she has been bullied consistently over the years. I've had my daughter in regular school, we tried charter schools but none of it was successful, we homeschooled 3rd grade through 8th grade. Our goal was always for her to go to highschool but I still had my doubts however my daughter felt she was ready to jump in so she was in public school for her freshman and sophomore year and it was nothing short of a nightmare. Needless to say we re back to homeschooling. If your child can do the online program thru the public system I would consider it, just make sure that they are involved in other extracurricular activities, something for a social outlet. I'm in Aurora. I have a ton of homeschooling supplies and a ton of experience in dealing with the system. Please feel free to call or text me (Phone number can only be seen by the question and answer creators). More then happy to help you in anyway I can, Look forward to hearing you.

We tried online school for our daughter and it was not good. She was having bad anxiety by high school and ended up in a private school which led to other issues. She finished her senior year with a GED equivalency. She is now actively trying to find work. She wants to move forward and live her own life. Melody struggled with peers and academics. I sometimes wonder if we took action soon enough. I am not sure how your son is motivated to do chores...Melody was not.

The parent has to put a lot of time into home schooling. Would you (mother) be able to do that? What if he doesn't do what he should, say like homework, would you be able to enforce rules? Just something to think about.

Hi
I think it is good that he wants to go to school as it will show others that I am not running away from the bullies but then you do have the home schooling if he can't manage it well proud of your son he is not letting them win xc
