My solution to my depression is to simply get outside, spend some time in the sun. Take a short walk if you can. By a lake, a park, the zoo. I know this sounds to simplistic, but it really works for me. Even if it's only for a short while,
I have a small garden and having flowers or just growing fresh tomatoes, really makes me happy.
I also rescued two abandoned puppies, that knew I saved them. Their mommy doggie died giving birth to them and the shelter was going to put them down. By the time I found them they had been shuffled around 4 times and they were only 10 weeks old. I was so lonely being so sick so often and when I saw them, I knew they were heart sick, scared and lonely too, just like I was.
We rescued each other. I have a home with a large yard and these two sibling puppies make me laugh so much by all of their antics. They are finally so secure and so happy, and they make me so happy too.. I know everyone can't afford to have a doggie, I know I am so blessed that I can.
I hope this can help you. I know these things really help me.

We have a local group in Long Eaton and the people there say they have been advised vit D and magnesium supplements. Have ordered some so will keep you updated.

I try to stay away man made herbal supplements because it's proven that 23k people a yr get sick and end up in the ER or worse... I am going to share just one article that effects the kidney and yet we continue to take them.. NOT ME it's kind of scary to see what supplements are doing to our bodies

I take Vitamin B12 and D and Multivitamins. But only as a supplement this never replace antidepressants. But they definitely help you.
